About this grant
The Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council created the Great Lakes Aquatic Habitat Network and Fund in 1996 to support grassroots efforts to protect aquatic habitats throughout the Great Lakes basin. The fund fosters communication between and among grassroots leaders and staff of environmental organizations active on aquatic habitat issues, and provides financial support to local aquatic habitat protection projects.Multiyear funding will enable the fund to provide small grants and technical assistance to aquatic habitat conservation projects; organize training and networking events; and connect local efforts to policy initiatives at the state, province, basin and national levels. Each of the Great Lakes basins will have at least one lake adviser who will provide technical assistance and serve as an information center for the network. A symposium will be held in, and focus on, a different Great Lakes basin each year to allow local grassroots groups and citizens to network and receive training.
