About this grant
Initiated in 1996 as a project of the Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council, a well-established watershed organization in northern Michigan, the Great Lakes Aquatic Habitat Network and Fund seeks to support an effective grassroots sector working locally to protect aquatic habitats throughout the Great Lakes basin. With prior Mott support, the program has: provided small grants for aquatic habitat conservation projects, organizational development, and technical assistance; organized training and networking events; and linked local efforts to policy initiatives at the state, province, basin, and national levels. After a comprehensive review process, the council has decided to establish the program as a separate entity. Renewal support will allow the program to continue to provide services to local groups as it transitions to an independent organization in 2008.
