About this grant
Freshwater Future is a regional environmental organization that supports citizen groups working across the Great Lakes Basin to protect and improve their communities’ rivers, lakes, and wetland ecosystems. With prior Mott support, the grantee offered a small grants program, capacity building services, and networking opportunities to grassroots groups. The grantee also connected its constituents to regional Great Lakes policy reform efforts to protect water quality from threats such as Asian Carp and impacts from new resource extraction activities. With renewed support, the grantee will continue to support individual groups working at the local level while also helping amplify their collective voice on high priority binational Great Lakes issues, such as reducing the occurrence of toxic algal blooms. The grantee will also take steps to strengthen its own organizational capacity.
