About this grant

The mission of the Asia Pacific Philanthropy Consortium is to increase the quality and quantity of philanthropy in the Asia Pacific region. Its activities focus on developing policy and human resources development and increasing public understanding of the role of philanthropy in addressing significant national problems.Multiyear funding will support activities that include increasing research and advocacy on philanthropy and legal issues in Asia; expanding the Asia Pacific Philanthropy Information Network; mobilizing resources for Asian nonprofit organizations; encouraging the development of national philanthropy networks in countries that currently do not have any; and sponsoring an international conference focusing on the theme of nonprofit governance and organizational effectiveness.Accomplishments during the past three years included conducting a comparative study of nonprofit law and regulation covering Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka; sponsoring a cross-Straits dialogue on foundation legislation between mainland China and Taiwan; assisting in bringing together international participants and mainland Chinese to discuss the Chinese nonprofit sector; and launching a regional project to conduct household surveys and introduce model fundraising programs.
