About this grant

The Midlands Women’s Group works with rural and urban women in KwaZulu-Natal on issues related to local government, community participation and women’s development. It works to ensure that women’s voices are heard; that women understand their rights and that their rights are upheld; and that they know how to access these insights.Multiyear funding will support activities that include providing training to women’s groups to help them develop a joint strategy for collective action; distributing and introducing a new women’s handbook that emphasizes a collective approach to ensuring their rights; and monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the women’s workshops.Accomplishments during the past two years included assisting women to understand their rights and helping them to access their rights through local government; improving development opportunities for women; organizing annual national women’s day events in rural communities to educate women about their rights and how to access them; and promoting gender awareness in community schools, especially on how to prevent violence against girls and women.
