About this grant
Since 1997, the Center for Russian Environmental Policy (CREP) has been working to identify and develop priorities for Russia’s environmental policy. After the first policy draft was prepared on the federal level, the program emphasis was shifted to the regional level with policy recommendations being tested in two model regions – Siberia and southwestern Russia. Multiyear funding will enable CREP to add 10 centers to the existing network of 11 regional environmental policy centers; provide training, consulting and informational support to the existing and new centers; engage more of the public in the environmental policy development and implementation process; and improve policy implementation through increased expertise and the involvement of broader constituencies.Included among CREP’s activities since 2001 are establishing 11 regional environmental policy centers throughout Russia; providing technical assistance and networking opportunities to the regional centers; organizing events that bring together academics, experts, government officials and citizens to discuss key issues, develop policy recommendations and design strategies to resolve specific environmental issues; and publishing a quarterly scholarly journal in Russian and English.
