About this grant
Since its establishment in 1997, Corner House has worked to encourage communities to participate in the decisionmaking and use of resources that affect their lives and livelihood. To that end, Corner House promotes the adoption of common environmental standards for export credit agencies (ECAs) in the United Kingdom and other European countries and monitors the impacts of specific projects and programs funded by other international financial institutions.Multiyear funding will enable Corner House to encourage the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development to introduce binding environmental and sustainable development standards into the ECA review process; monitor private-sector infrastructure development projects; increase the effectiveness of United Kingdom non-governmental organizations’ (NGOs) work on environmentally and socially damaging projects; analyze the impacts of specific projects and programs funded by international financial institutions; and conduct media and educational activities related to the sustainable development impacts of bilateral and international investment agreements.Recent accomplishments included securing substantial reforms in the United Kingdom ECA; providing analytical and institutional leadership among European NGOs to clearly define the environmental and social reforms needed by their countries’ ECAs; and conducting research and developing strategies to address activities of other international financial institutions.
