About this grant
Investment is often assumed to be an automatic route to economic growth. Corner House believes that addressing key questions about investments is essential if economic growth is to be environmentally sustainable and equitable. A central focus of the grantee’s work is to encourage public participation in decisionmaking on investments to ensure that projects that are financed promote sustainable livelihoods. Over the next two years, the grantee will continue its efforts to reform international financial institutions, in particular the World Bank; export credit agencies; and private banks. In addition, the grantee will focus on new trends emerging from the global financial crisis, including monitoring of proposed new regulations for derivatives and other complex financial vehicles and supporting efforts to construct banking and financial systems that reduce systemic risk and promote public interest goals.
