About this grant
The goal of the Trade and Environment Program is to encourage the contribution of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to the discussion and debate around trade and the environment by generating research and analysis for informed decisionmaking on the issue.Multiyear funding will support objectives that include creating a hemispheric group on trade and environmental governance; building a consensus on a positive trade and environment agenda in Mexico; conducting policy research projects to enhance the linkages between trade and the environment; maintaining a role in the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation’s processes, programs and activities; and monitoring and analyzing trade and the environment discussions at the multilateral and regional levels to make informed contributions to decisionmaking processes.Recent activities included disseminating information to groups interested in trade through the creation of an electronic discussion group; creating a permanent forum to discuss and debate issues related to trade and environment for government officials, parliamentarians, academia and other NGOs; and co-organizing a Ministerial meeting on trade and the environment, hosted by the Mexican Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, as a parallel to the World Trade Organization Ministerial in Cancun.
