About this grant
The Legal Resources Trust provides legal education and training in nonprofit law to civil society-based organizations working to promote socioeconomic development in South Africa. Multiyear funding will enable the trust to help organizations become legal entities; create a center for developing skills and disseminating information relating to nonprofit law and practice; promote cooperation and coordination among nonprofits and state institutions; participate in public policy and debates affecting the nonprofit sector; and convene meetings and workshops on the principles of good governance, transparency and accountability.Since 1999, the trust has helped a number of nonprofits to draft governance documents and register under the nonprofit law provisions; produced and disseminated information booklets and handouts relating to nonprofit law and practice; organized training workshops on nonprofit law and practice; and assisted in the establishment of nonprofit organizations, particularly community-based entities.
