About this grant
Isandla Institute is a public interest think tank whose primary focus is to foster just, equitable and democratic urban settlements. It conducts research and formulates policies and strategies in the areas of local government and urban development.This grant will enable the institute to conduct research and publish articles and books on urban renewal and urban development, with a particular focus on the city of Cape Town. In addition, it will conduct nationwide research into how national policy for local government has been implemented.During the past several years, the institute worked with both national and local governments on issues including developing the regulatory framework for local economic development; integrating poverty reduction into local planning processes; and assessing municipal integrated development plans.
