About this grant

The Isandla Institute was established in 1998 as a policy research organization that focuses on the development of effective partnerships between government and the nonprofit sector on poverty alleviation and urban planning. The grantee engages in cutting edge research, knowledge sharing, development of alternative frameworks and methodologies, and consultancies to support urban development and transformation. The thematic areas it focuses on include poverty reduction, local governance, HIV in the context of human settlements planning, and urban development. Over the past two years, the grantee hosted conferences and dialogues, published papers and a book, and collaborated on research activities on governance and urban planning. This grant will support the grantee to facilitate engagement with local government and urban management using research and knowledge sharing and to develop and promote innovative models for equitable service delivery, leadership, and participatory local governance, informed by local and international experiences.
