About this grant

The Center for Community Organizing was created in 1999 to promote community-organizing activities as a way of strengthening citizen participation and democracy in Slovakia. Multiyear funding will enable the center to continue its work with a focus on addressing two critical issues: the Roma situation and problems in high-rise neighborhoods. Key activities will include working in high-rise neighborhoods in major Slovakian cities to promote multifaceted development; assisting Roma communities in addressing challenges; and strengthening networking among non-governmental organizations with similar missions in the region.During the past two years, accomplishments included conducting several local campaigns; expanding work to the eastern part of the country; and organizing a national campaign for local elections to ensure that newly elected representatives of local government are accountable to the needs of citizens.
