About this grant

The Responsible Trade Program was created to provide the public, media, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and policymakers with information on the ways trade policy impacts the environmental and social conditions of all citizens.Multiyear funding will support objectives that include preparing community impact reports; creating awareness among the public and state-level officials of the impacts of trade policies on state environmental protection laws; strengthening Sierra Club volunteers to carry out state-level activities; and building coalitions to promote environmentally sustainable trade policies.Accomplishments during the past two years included contributing to the debate about U.S. trade policy; maintaining media focus on the issue of North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) investor lawsuits; encouraging state officials to monitor federal trade policymaking; and increasing the number of local Sierra Club leaders focusing on trade issues.
