About this grant
The Promoting Reforms in International Financial Institutions project of Environmental Defense works to protect forest, energy and water resources – and the human rights of the communities and cultures that depend on them – in Latin America, Africa and Asia. This grant will support the project’s continued efforts to advocate for the reform of public and private international financial institutions.Multiyear funding will enable Environmental Defense to focus on research and advocacy in key developing countries; conduct research and analysis to ensure implementation of, and compliance with, environmental and social policies by international financial institutions; and coordinate international policy reform efforts. In addition, Environmental Defense will continue managing a small grants fund to provide strategic support to partner non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in developing countries working to reform international financial institutions.Recent accomplishments included promoting strong policy recommendations in the context of the Extractive Industries Review; providing ongoing leadership for NGOs working to influence environmental policy; and advocating for performance standards at private sector banks that have adopted the Equator Principles.
