About this grant
This grant supports the strengthening of a key institution in Croatia whose goals are to promote volunteerism and development of the nonprofit sector, support community-based peace building, and improve ethnic relations. During the grant period, the Centre for Peace, Nonviolence and Human Rights Osijek will focus on increasing war crimes trial monitoring in Croatia and the Balkans region; providing support services to witnesses and victims in connection with ongoing war crimes trials; and promoting mediation services as a technique for conflict resolution in schools and communities. Over the past two years, the center has coordinated regional war crimes trial monitoring activities and supported civil society development by working with other local organizations to develop a volunteer center, a regional foundation, and a regional forum of nongovernmental organizations. The center is based in Osijek, a city in eastern Croatia.
