About this grant
The goal of the association is to build civil society by helping citizens in poor and disadvantaged communities throughout Romania to improve local development. Programs are carried out by a network of community facilitators who are active in poor, rural villages throughout the country and focus on developing community-active schools, providing training and technical assistance to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and local authorities.Multiyear funding will support activities that include implementing the community-development program; providing training and consultancy in community development and facilitation to develop the skills of NGOs, local authorities and community-based organizations active in the field; developing a seed fund to support community-based initiatives; and promoting community development and public policy.Accomplishments during the past two years included expanding the community-facilitation process from four to 11 countries; implementing community-facilitation programs in nine multiethnic communities and 12 Roma communities; developing new mechanisms and tools to support community development; providing training and technical assistance to emerging programs; participating in regional networks; and encouraging the establishment of a national network of community-development practitioners.
