About this grant

Friends of the Earth International (FoEI) is one of the key global networks working to reform international financial institutions. FoEI works at both the national and international levels, in conjunction with national member organizations and other non-governmental organizations and in cooperation with communities affected by projects of international financial institutions. Multiyear funding will enable FoEI to continue reform efforts by expanding civil society’s role in the decisionmaking processes of the international financial institutions; ensuring that there are effective safeguard policies and open, transparent decisionmaking processes at these institutions; working to shift lending portfolios away from financing fossil fuel and mining projects to renewable energy and other alternatives; and encouraging alternative development approaches that contribute to sustainable development.Recently, FoEI played a pivotal role in the World Bank’s Extractive Industries Review by participating in regional consultations; providing input through both formal and informal channels; managing major outreach and information tools; and serving as the key contact for media in various countries.
