About this grant
This grant will enable the Women’s Hope, Education and Training (WHEAT) Trust to develop its capacity as a women’s fund that supports grassroots women working to promote community development and reduce poverty. WHEAT was established in 1998 and is one of only two independent women’s funds in South Africa.Multiyear funding will support objectives that include further developing programs services to grantees and partners; establishing a fundraising department; improving information technology and grant tracking systems; expanding the Network of Eminent Women; and designing more qualitative tools to measure the impact of grantmaking.Achievements during the past two years included increasing the number of small grants to women-led, community-based organizations; providing technical assistance to a number of women-led grantee organizations; convening grantees twice a year to exchange information; hosting two award events annually; organizing information briefings for donors; and establishing donor circles of similar small grantmakers to share lessons learned and encourage networking.
