Independence Care System (ICS) is a nonprofit organization that operates a managed long-term care plan that provides and coordinates a comprehensive range of health and social services for New Yorkers with severe physical disabilities. Jointly sponsored by the Paraprofessional Healthcare Institute and Cooperative Home Care Associates, ICS contracts for home care aide services for its members.Funding will enable ICS to enroll an additional 150 members; create and retain an additional 200 home care positions for low-income women; begin operating in Brooklyn; open an office in the Bronx; and develop a stronger relationship with Cooperative Home Care Associates.Since its establishment in 2000, ICS has enrolled 550 disabled people and employed 800 home care aides.
