About this grant
This grant provides continued general purposes support to Independent Sector, a national membership organization of 600 foundations, corporations, and voluntary organizations dedicated to encouraging philanthropy, volunteerism, and citizen action. Over the past several years, Independent Sector has been playing a vigorous leadership role, building a more robust public policy and advocacy program, and a stronger membership coalition. It has provided the sector with a "national voice" before policymakers, the media, and the public-at-large at a time when challenges facing the nonprofit community are significant. Independent Sector’s work in 2008 will revolve around two main themes: enhancing the effectiveness and accountability of the nonprofit community, and leading the nonprofit community to promote vibrant communities and a healthy democracy.
