About this grant
Independent Sector is a leadership forum of more than 450 charities, foundations, and corporate giving programs dedicated to advancing the common good by leading, strengthening, and mobilizing the nonprofit and philanthropic community. Currently, Independent Sector is focusing on strengthening the nonprofit and philanthropic community’s voice, leadership, and impact. Major areas of activity include advancing public policies that support the nonprofit sector, increasing nonprofit engagement in advocacy, maintaining a strong system of tax incentives for charitable giving, developing the next generation of nonprofit leaders, promoting nonprofit ethics and accountability, and expanding and deepening a diverse membership. This grant increase will enable the grantee to respond to rules governing the activities of social welfare organizations that were recently proposed by the Internal Revenue Service. The grantee plans to launch a yearlong public education campaign at the beginning of 2014.
