About this grant

This grant provides general purpose support to Independent Sector, a leadership network for nonprofits, foundations, and corporations committed to advancing the common good. Founded in 1980, the grantee fulfills its mission by: 1) convening opportunities for sector leaders to work together on key issues; 2) promoting policies that enable the nonprofit and philanthropic community to engage with public officials on a nonpartisan basis; 3) supporting the development and dissemination of strategies to strengthen volunteering, voting, giving, and other forms of citizen engagement; 4) encouraging the sector to meet the highest standards of ethical practice and effectiveness; and 5) serving as the voice of the independent sector to the media, government, business, and international voluntary communities. Over the next two years, the grantee will help the sector make its voice heard among policy makers and serve as an advocate for and disseminator of innovative solutions to ongoing and emerging needs.
