About this grant
The Uthungulu Community Foundation was established in 1999 to serve the needs of the people of Uthungulu, a predominantly rural and impoverished district in KwaZulu-Natal. It focuses on making small grants in the areas of education, health, agriculture and small-business development, and providing capacity building training and support to community-based organizations.Multiyear funding will support core operational, institutional and organizational costs while the community foundation works to build its endowment to ensure long-term sustainability. It will also continue to make small, program-related grants to community-based organizations and initiatives.Recent accomplishments included establishing relationships with private corporations in the region; developing a mentoring and training program for young leaders in the field of philanthropy; and serving as a resource for community-based organizations in South Africa and the southern African region.
