About this grant

This grant will enable BoardSource to strengthen the boards and increase the effectiveness of U.S. nonprofits by providing governance training, information and leadership opportunities to staff. Funding will support activities that include helping the nonprofit sector develop and disseminate guidelines on good governance; creating and distributing new training and assessment products and services; strengthening governance performance nationally by working with federated organizations and their affiliates; and reaching out to small and local nonprofits by developing regional partnerships with regionally focused foundations. Recent accomplishments included exploring alternative methods of governance and developing new approaches through a three-year joint research effort with Harvard’s Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations; completing the fourth national survey of nonprofit governance practices; developing training curricula on the role of boards in fundraising in partnership with the Foundation Center; and conducting research on decisionmaking processes of community foundation boards.
