About this grant
This grant supports the active participation of people in the development of their communities and in the political processes shaping the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2009-2010, the Centers for Civic Initiatives – Tuzla will provide training, information resources, mentoring, and financial support to other nongovernmental organizations and community-based groups working to improve links between citizens and government and address key policy initiatives. The centers will also strengthen the accountability of decisionmakers to citizens by monitoring the work of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s state- and entity-level governments and parliaments. During the past two years, the grantee has: monitored the work of the state- and entity-level government and parliaments and 13 cantonal assemblies; provided approximately $850,000 in grants to nonprofits in Bosnia; and promoted transitional justice in Bosnia and Herzegovina by managing a local network to support witnesses.
