About this grant
Berne Declaration has been a respected voice in the international non-governmental organization community and influential in international financial institution reform efforts since 1992. The Sustainable Financial Relations Project enables Berne to work with other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Europe, the U.S. and developing countries on international financial institution reform. This grant will enable Berne Declaration to continue its work with partners in the U.S., Europe and developing countries on institutional reform at the World Bank, export credit agencies and private sector banks; monitor environmentally and socially harmful projects funded by these institutions; and educate officials and the public about the need to adopt more sustainable patterns of international development.Activities during the past two years included engaging in discussions with officials of the Swiss export credit agency (ECA), resulting in the strengthening of environmental and social guidelines for ECA-supported projects and the introduction of anti-corruption practices; advocating for the creation of a multi-stakeholder process that allows Swiss NGOs to participate in high-level economic ministry discussions on decisions relating to the World Bank; and participating in the international NGO network, BankTrack.
