About this grant
The Court Street Village Non-Profit Housing Corporation created the Resident Empowerment Program in 1997 to organize residents living in five downtown Flint neighborhoods. A full-time staff person was hired to work with residents to determine community needs and carry out community revitalization plans. In 2003, the five original neighborhoods were reduced to four when two groups merged.Funding will enable the program to continue identifying residents, stakeholders and investors within neighborhoods surrounding Flint’s central city; develop a perception, vision and story for each neighborhood; create and initiate a recruiting plan for each neighborhood association; and provide ongoing technical support to neighborhood associations and connect them with each other and available resources.
