About this grant

This grant renewal provides general purpose support for CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation, an international alliance established in 1993 dedicated to strengthening citizen action and civil society worldwide. The grantee currently has 1,100 members from 121 countries. Key partners at the global level include United Nations agencies, academic institutions, and many large international development organizations. The grantee also has consultative status with global and regional bodies such as World Bank and the Council of Europe. The grantee’s programmatic work entails knowledge generation and analysis (such as the annual State of Civil Society report and the Enabling Environment Index), communications, convening, and advocacy. The grantee also has programs on participatory governance, development cooperation, and aid effectiveness, as well as legitimacy, transparency, and accountability of civil society organizations.
