About this grant

Established in 1993, CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation is an international alliance of 3,700 members in 175 countries. Its mission is to strengthen civil society and citizen participation throughout the world, especially in areas where participatory democracy and citizens’ freedom of association are challenged. Recent accomplishments include: the hosting of a World Assembly and International Civil Society Week in Colombia in 2016; the release of annual State of Civil Society reports; and the launch of the CIVICUS Monitor, a new research tool to share reliable, timely data and analysis on civic space. This grant renewal will support CIVICUS’ development and implementation of a new 2017-2022 strategic plan, which will be finalized in July 2017. The alliance’s areas of work are likely to include strengthening of civil society by addressing capacity needs, protecting and promoting civic space through research and advocacy, and supporting citizen inclusion in global agreements.
