About this grant
This grant provides renewal support to the Council on Foundations, a national membership organization of more than 1,800 private foundations, community foundations, and corporate funders. The council’s work on behalf of philanthropy includes government relations and advocacy, communications, standard-setting, learning opportunities, research, legal expertise, convenings, and sector leadership. In 2009, the council adopted a three-year plan that focuses on the following strategic priorities: 1) promoting philanthropy; 2) ensuring essential service delivery; 3) increasing the philanthropic infrastructure’s collective impact; 4) supporting foundation leaders; and 5) building an effective organization. Last year’s highlights included developing strong relationships with government, having more than 4,000 attendees at various educational events, and launching a strategic alliance with the Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers. Key activities in 2010 will include expanding the council’s Public-Private Partnership Initiative, developing an integrated knowledge management system, coordinating the Global Philanthropic Leadership Initiative, and strengthening its internal evaluation process.
