About this grant
This grant provides renewal support to the Council on Foundations, a national membership organization of more than 1,800 private foundations, community foundations, and corporate funders. The grantee’s work on behalf of philanthropy includes government relations and advocacy, communications, standard-setting, learning opportunities, research, legal expertise, convenings, and sector leadership. Currently, the grantee focuses on the following strategic priorities: 1) promoting philanthropy; 2) ensuring essential service delivery; 3) increasing the collective impact of the philanthropic infrastructure; 4) supporting foundation leaders; and 5) building an effective organization. Recent accomplishments include coalition-building with other philanthropic associations, the Global Philanthropy Leadership Initiative, and the Public-Philanthropic Partnership Initiative. In 2012-2013, the grantee will focus on maintaining strong government relations and legal services, improving knowledge resources, growing membership with a focus on mid-sized foundations, enhancing the ability to connect members, and developing a stable infrastructure.
