About this grant

The Council of Michigan Foundations is a statewide association of 300 grantmakers that provides its members with educational programs, technical assistance, networking opportunities, advocacy with policymakers and regulators, and collaborative work with leading national and regional philanthropic associations. Highlights from 2016-2017 include the offering of more than 100 learning programs in which 208 foundations participated, working with partners to protect and improve the policy environment for philanthropy on both state and national levels, a 94 percent membership retention rate, and meaningful partnerships with a multitude of philanthropic and nonprofit sector infrastructure organizations. During 2017-2019, the grantee will pursue eight strategies: 1) engaging members where they want to be; 2) strategically recruiting new members; 3) connecting members to the assistance they need; 4) conducting active internal evaluation and assessment; 5) growing the sector’s collective voice in public policy; 6) expanding diversity, equity, and inclusion of the sector; 7) nurturing mission-aligned social enterprise opportunities; and 8) achieving organizational effectiveness.
