About this grant

The Paraprofessional Healthcare Institute is an advocacy and employment development organization that targets the health care industry. Its core mission is to improve the quality of care for the elderly and other long-term care clients, while at the same time improving the quality of direct-care jobs for low-income women within the long-term care workforce.Funding will enable the institute to pursue activities that include continuing to expand its Cooperative Health Care Network; developing its consulting practice; strengthening its national policy partnership with the federal government and others trying to solve the direct health care worker shortage; promoting its state-based policy initiatives in California, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania; and broadening the reach of its national clearinghouse, the nation’s primary source of information and analysis regarding direct-care workers.During the past year, the institute strengthened and diversified its quality service training; informed state policy of the needs of direct-care workers; and began partnering with the federal government to develop policy ideas that will increase the number of people entering the direct-care workforce.
