About this grant
The federation, formed in 1993 by four statewide, community-based organizations in Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington, addresses social and economic issues affecting low-income communities in the region. Multiyear funding will enable the federation to expand its staff and training to organizations in Arkansas, California, Iowa, South Carolina and Texas. Objectives include continuing to build capacity in affiliates through staff and leadership development and building a broader network.Recent accomplishments included organizing members across four states to meet with the National Governors Association on welfare reform and other policy issues affecting members; improving synthesis of policy research and development with community-based fieldwork; developing quick-response measures to employ when important programs are threatened; training more than 600 grassroots leaders; and working with the National Campaign for Jobs and Income Support.
