About this grant
Evaluation data of the community foundation’s 2002 Summer Youth Program suggests that participating for more than one year reduces youth crime and self-destructive behaviors and motivates participants to complete high school and acquire general job skills. Equally important, pre- and post-tests of summer youth programs focusing on education indicate that 60 percent of student participants either improve or maintain the academic skills they had when they entered the program.Funding will support a variety of summer programs for Flint children and youth, ages five through 22, focusing on education and employment.During the past summer, funding supported 29 projects that employed 433 youth and served more than 6,100 children and youth.
