About this grant

The Summer Youth Program, created by the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, provides a structured and productive summer experience for children and youth in Genesee County. Through the program, approximately 30 programs that focus on improving job skills enable Flint area youth to participate in structured activities during the summer months.Funding will support summer activities for Flint children and youth. The Mott Foundation Leadership Academy, created in 2001 as a component of the program, offers youths workers skill-building and personal enrichment activities beyond basic employment readiness training. In 2003, the program funded 27 organizations that employed 351 youth and served 10,146 children and young people. Summer program graduates now have the opportunity to continue leadership training through the Greater Flint Youth Leadership Program, which operates year-round.
