About this grant

The South Carolina Coastal Conservation League (SCCCL) works to protect wetlands and water quality at the state and local levels of South Carolina. The league also participates in relicensing proceedings at federally regulated hydropower facilities in the state.Multiyear funding will support activities that include promoting the establishment and efficient implementation of state and local policies that protect isolated wetlands; encouraging the development and implementation of Total Maximum Daily Load plans to reduce the pollutant load of critical rivers and streams; and participating in the relicensing of six hydropower projects comprising 21 dams with licenses that are expiring during this decade in order to align the dams’ operations with current environmental standards.During the past three years, SCCCL has worked to bring the isolated wetlands issue to the forefront by educating decisionmakers, the media and the public. That effort helped the league promote the South Carolina Conservation Bank as well as aquatic habitat protection through the relicensing of hydropower facilities.
