About this grant

The Flint STRIVE Replication program, modeled after East Harlem Employment Service’s STRIVE program, provides employment training, placement and support to Flint residents seeking private sector jobs. Flint STRIVE’s mission is to create long-term employment for low-skilled adults and youths through training and post-placement support. The program stresses attitudinal training and helps participants use the tools needed to navigate the ever-changing job market.Funding will provide employment service to 250 participants from Flint and Genesee County. The goal will be for a minimum of 200 of these clients to complete the intensive 120-hour, three-week training curriculum. After completing training, most participants will be placed in a job within three to six weeks. STRIVE works to build relationships with area employers, government agencies and nonprofit organizations to secure jobs for its graduates.Since its inception in 2001, 419 residents have successfully completed the Flint STRIVE program, with 80 percent of the graduates placed in employment. Seventy-five percent of those placed had retained their job after two years.
