About this grant
This grant will enable Flint Area Specialized Employment Services to continue the Flint STRIVE Replication Program, created to prepare participants for the workforce. STRIVE – developed by East Harlem Employment Services and replicated in 19 cities in the United States, England and Israel – is a three-week workshop that focuses on the attitudinal prerequisites for successful entry-level employment. Its goal is to provide training and post-placement support to low-skilled adults and youth seeking long-term employment.During 2005, Flint STRIVE will provide employment services to 250 participants from Genesee County. The goal of the program is for a minimum of 200 participants to complete the three-week training curriculum. After completing the training, participants will be placed in a job within three to six weeks. Each STRIVE graduate is eligible for lifetime services, which include progress evaluation, help finding a job and information on support services needed to maintain gainful employment.Since 2000, STRIVE has placed 491 unemployed Flint residents into jobs, with 75 percent retention over two years.
