About this grant
The program goal is to foster the development of civil society in an open and democratic Ukraine. The Committee of Voters of Ukraine will mobilize volunteers to monitor elections, promote accountability of elected officials through public information activities, advise citizens on effective means of interacting with local government, educate youth on their constitutional and voting rights, and advocate for transparent and reliable election procedures in Ukraine. In 2007-2009, the grantee trained over 200,000 local election commissioners and party observers. It maintained a pool of 3,000 volunteer election monitors whose work contributed to increasingly free and fair local and national elections over this period. Its monitoring of a pilot national university entrance exam helped see new procedures established for this important anticorruption measure. Established in 1994, the Committee of Voters of Ukraine and its 148 local and regional branches work to promote open and democratic political processes in Ukraine.
