About this grant
The Women on Farms Project provides women who work and live on farms with information about their rights, particularly in relation to local government and local development. The goal of the project is to enable these women to protect and advance their rights.Multiyear funding will support activities that include improving the living and working conditions of women farmworkers, especially health services; facilitating access to social security grants; raising awareness of government services available to women farmworkers; gathering information on local government and local development plans for rural women; conducting research and education on women’s health, HIV/AIDS and violence against women; and increasing employment opportunities for female seasonal farmworkers through the formation of work teams.Accomplishments during the past two years included increasing awareness of rural women about their rights under the constitution; training women farmworkers in leadership development, organizing skills and personal development; building the confidence of rural women to take charge of their lives; and developing training programs for youth to deal with issues such as teenage pregnancy, domestic violence, drug abuse and HIV/AIDS.
