About this grant
This grant will provide general purpose support to the Harlem Children’s Zone, a comprehensive community-building initiative focused on improving outcomes for poor children and their families in Harlem. In 2012, the Harlem Children’s Zone provided a series of integrated social, recreational, health, and community-based services to more than 20,000 children and families in a 97-block area in central Harlem. Recommended support will enable the grantee to continue to provide its seamless system of supports to reach more children, open a new K-12 Promise Academy Charter School, continue a longitudinal study that documents the success of participants in its core programs, and assist more than 50 communities participating in the federally supported Promise Neighborhoods Initiative.
