About this grant

The National Black United Fund promotes charitable giving and volunteerism by African Americans. The fund is the only national network of independent black philanthropies that address the needs of black and minority communities. It raises money primarily through employee payroll deduction and then distributes the funds to community-based nonprofits serving the African-American community.Funding will enable the organization to conduct two affiliate training sessions focusing on fund development and communications; create a fund development manual and training for national and local staff; provide ongoing technical and organizing assistance to communities in North Carolina, Wisconsin and New Jersey; conduct capacity assessments of affiliates in Virginia and Massachusetts; help affiliates with the recruitment and development of new members; enhance all forms of communications; and conduct outreach into communities where there is an interest in organizing.
