About this grant

The goal of this project is to strengthen the capacity of non-governmental organizations to reform international finance and trade and encourage sustainable economic policies. This grant increase will enable the Tides Center’s project, APEX: Ecological Economics and International Finance, to hold three workshops bringing together ecological economists in the North and South to shape realistic proposals for macroeconomic policies that take into account global environmental problems such as climate change, deforestation, over-fishing and pollution. Additional funding also will allow the project to brief developing country government representatives about how multilateral environmental agreements can have primacy over new trade rules established by the World Trade Organization. Both of these initiatives will make valuable contributions to ongoing work to educate and empower non-governmental organizations to frame policy debates using principles of ecological economics.
