About this grant
The program goal is to support the development of local communities and grassroots organizations in the Carpathian Euroregion. To this end, Carpathian Foundation International, in partnership with the network of local Carpathian foundations in Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Ukraine, will provide grants, technical assistance, and networking opportunities to nongovernmental organizations and local governments throughout the Carpathian Euroregion to promote economic development, cross-border cooperation, and interethnic initiatives. In addition, the foundation will strengthen its own, as well as its partners’, organizational capacities and financial sustainability. The foundation started in 1995 as a project of the EastWest Institute, and to date, it has awarded more than 1,350 grants totaling over $8 million to nongovernmental organizations and local governments. In the past two years, the foundation supported cross-border initiatives in the areas of community development, deliberative democracy, education, and cultural heritage which benefited more than 400 communities.
