About this grant

The Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action brings together both theoretical and applied specialists and practitioners and helps scholars gain insight into the practical concerns of nonprofit agencies. It also provides nonprofit professionals with research they can use to improve the quality of life for citizens and communities.Multiyear funding will support objectives that include disseminating information on nonprofits, voluntary action and philanthropy; promoting greater recognition and support for nonprofits; and strengthening the association’s operations. Activities will include organizing annual conferences to assess the state of research in the field; enhancing the organization’s Web site; and expanding the organization’s membership program.Activities during the past two years included organizing an annual conference with a record attendance of 620; distributing an online directory of researchers; increasing collaboration with other organizations such as Aspen Institute and Independent Sector; producing three publications; and publishing a paper focusing on philanthropy in communities of color.
