About this grant
The Alliance for the Great Lakes, founded in 1970, seeks to conserve and restore the Great Lakes through scientific and legal research, policy reform initiatives, and public engagement. With previous Mott support, the grantee helped develop regional strategies to address toxic algal blooms, produced a report on water quality threats from the shipping of crude oil, and engaged 15,000 volunteers to clean up coastal sites across the region. Renewed support will enable the grantee to continue improving water quality, ensuring natural water levels and flows, halting invasive species, and building stronger public support for Great Lakes protections. The grantee will also take steps to strengthen its own organizational capacity.
