About this grant

The Minority Rights Group International’s (MRGI) Southeast Europe program promotes minority rights, intercommunity cooperation and development in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, and Serbia and Montenegro. Through this grant MRGI will continue working closely with its network of 28 partner non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to build the capacity of minority-based and interethnic NGOs throughout the region.Funding will support activities that include providing training on minority rights and advocacy; publishing and translating materials on minority rights; and monitoring the implementation of international instruments and domestic legislation. MRGI will also provide technical assistance and networking opportunities to all 28 partners.Recent accomplishments included organizing a variety of seminars and workshops to build the capacity of local NGOs to advocate for international standards and improved domestic legislation and policies for minority protection; publishing and disseminating a booklet in Croatian on minority rights, a book of case studies in Bulgarian on how to overcome discrimination and eight studies on the impact of development activities in Southeast Europe; and working at the domestic level to improve domestic legislation and policies for minority protection.
