About this grant
This grant will support the Trustee Leadership Seminar Series, created by the Association of Small Foundations to help foundation trustees improve their skills through a series of leadership seminars. Seminar curriculum focuses on governance issues, grantmaking procedures, and legal and fiscal responsibilities to help small, often isolated, foundations improve their accountability, governance and effectiveness.Funding will enable the association to expand the series with three, two-day sessions; continue to offer five, one-day seminars; and update the trustee leadership handbook. The longer sessions will contribute to deeper exploration and critical thinking in key areas; the expanded curriculum will focus on upholding the public trust, defining values, and exploring passion and succession in both family and nonfamily foundations.Recent activities included conducting 21 leadership seminars, attended by 889 participants, nationwide; testing a variety of collaborative partnership and sponsorship models; and expanding a partnership model with organizations that include the Jewish Funders Network, the Foundation Incubator, the Philanthropy Roundtable, the National Center for Family Philanthropy, Grantmakers in Health, Grantmakers for Effective Organizations and Grantmakers in Aging.
